Free Craft Patterns!

Like free craft patterns? This is the place! Every week, we will post a new craft pattern taken from one of Krause Publcations popular craft books with topics from scrapbooking to quilting and everything in between. So, be sure to check back here every week for a new free craft pattern from Krause.

All patterns are archived for 4 weeks.

Our fourth set of patterns is featured in Krause Publications book The Complete Guide To Glues & Adhesives. In 1995, Tammy Young's The Crafter's Guide to Glues took the crafting world by storm. Now, Tammy has teamed up with Nancy Ward for this full-color follow-up that covers everything crafters and artists need to know about glues and adhesives currently on the market, including their uses and applications. Besides presenting the basics, like safety, there are nearly 30 quick and easy step-by-step projects.

This weeks free craft pattern:
The Complete Guide To Glues & Adhesives: Ornament

Ornament

You Will Need:

  • Clear glass ball with removable cap
  • Spray adhesive
  • Glitter (color of your choice)
  • Small piece of folded paper towel (use caution when handling the opening on the ball; it often has sharp and ragged edges)
  • Two or three colors of powdered mica pigments: In the example Jacquard products Pear Ex Interference Blue/Green, MagicalFaerieland Shimmering Green Faerie Dust and Twinrocker Pearlescent Whiter were used
  • Krylon Webbing Spray: White
  • Small craft stick
  • Miscellaneous Supplies: Disposable plastic gloves or plastic bags, piece of scrap paper, small piece of cloth to wrap around ball

Instructions:

  1. After lightly coating the inside of the ball with glitter, wrap it in a small cloth and spray white Webbing Spray into the opening in four short bursts. Rotate the ball a quarter turn with each burst. You may notice that the ball becomes very cold from the Webbing Spray.

  2. Using the end of the small craft stick as a scope, place approximately teaspoon of the lightest color of the mica pigment into the ball. Cover the end of the ball with the folded paper towel and shake the ball. Empty the excess mica pigment from the ball onto the scrap paper. Apply the other colors of mica pigment in the same way, emptying the excess of one color before adding another. Additional Webbing Spray can be sprayed into the ball if the mica pigments are not sticking to the inside of the ball.

  3. Protecting your hands either with gloves or plastic bags, hold the ball by the opening and spray the outside of the ball with the Webbing Spray. Allow to dry. Replace the cap on the ball.
  4. This pattern is just one of the many you will find in Krause's The Complete Guide To Glues & Adhesives.
